The Name of Al-Ansar & Their Deeds

Narrated Ghailan bin Jarir (Radiallahu Anhu – may Allah be pleased with him): I asked Anas (Radiallahu Anhu – may Allah be pleased with him), “Tell me about the name ‘Al-Ansar.; Did you call yourselves by it or did Allah call you by it?” He (Radiallahu Anhu – may Allah be pleased with him) said, “Allah called us by it.”

We used to visit Anas (Radiallahu Anhu – may Allah be pleased with him) (at Basra) and he used to narrate to us the virtues and deeds of the Ansar (Radiallahu Anhu – may Allah be pleased with them), and he used to address me or a person from the tribe of Al-Azd and say, “Your tribe did so-and-so on such-and-such a day.”

Khadijah al-Kubra (Khadija the great), Family Life

Khadijah bint Khuwaylid or Khadijah al-Kubra (Khadija the great) (Radiallahu Anha) was born in the year 555 AD and belonged to the Qurayshi clan of Banu Hashim of the tribe of Banu Asad.

Her father, Khuwaylid ibn Asad belonged to the Abd al-`Uzza clan of the tribe of Quraysh and was one of the most honored leaders of the tribe of Banu Hashimn. His business talents and success as a merchant brought him vast wealth which allowed Khadijah to grew up in the lap of luxury until his death in 585 AD at the famous battle of Fujjar.

Khadija’s mother, who died around 575 A.D., was Fatima bint Za’ida ibn al-Asam of Banu `Amir ibn Luayy ibn Ghalib, a distant relative of Prophet Muhammad (saws: Sall-allahu alayhi wa sallam).

Ali bin Abi Talib, Dua For A Dead Companion

Narrated Ibn ‘Abbas (raa: Radiallahu Anhu): While I was standing amongst the people who were invoking Allah for Umar bin Al-Khattab (raa: Radiallahu Anhu) who was lying (dead) on his bed, a man behind me rested his elbows on my shoulder and said,

“(O ‘Umar!) May Allah bestow His Mercy on you. I always hoped that Allah will keep you with your two companions (raa: Radiallahu Anhu), for I often heard Allah’s Apostle (saws: Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam) saying, “I (raa: Radiallahu Anhu), Abu Bakr (raa: Radiallahu Anhu) and ‘Umar (raa: Radiallahu Anhu) were (somewhere).”

“I (raa: Radiallahu Anhu), Abu Bakr (raa: Radiallahu Anhu) and ‘Umar (raa: Radiallahu Anhu) did (something).”

“I (raa: Radiallahu Anhu), Abu Bakr (raa: Radiallahu Anhu) and ‘Umar (raa: Radiallahu Anhu) set out.’ So I hoped that Allah will keep you with both of them.”

I turned back to see that the speaker was Ali bin Abi Talib.

Mu’awiya ibn ‘Abi Sufyan & Witr Salat

Narrated Ibn Abu Mulaika (raa: Radiallahu Anhu): Muawiya (raa: Radiallahu Anhu) offered one Rak’a Witr salat (prayer) after the ‘Isha prayer, and at that time a freed slave of Ibn ‘Abbas (raa: Radiallahu Anhu) was present. He (i.e. the slave) went to Ibn ‘Abbas (raa: Radiallahu Anhu) (and told him that Muawiya (raa: Radiallahu Anhu) offered one Rak’a Witr prayer).

Ibn Abbas (raa: Radiallahu Anhu) said, “Leave him, for he was in the company of Allah’s Apostle (saws: Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam).”

Forbidden, A Task Beyond Our Capability

Narrated Anas (raa: Radiallahu Anhu): We were with ‘Umar (raa) and he said, “We have been forbidden to undertake a difficult task beyond our capability” (i.e. to exceed the religious limits e.g., to clean the inside of the eyes while doing ablution).

Consideration Of Others, Don’t Bother Them With Too Many Questions

Narrated Abu Musa Al-Ash’ari (raa: Radiallahu Anhu): Allah’s Apostle (saws: Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam) was asked about things which he disliked, and when the people asked too many questions, he became angry and said, “Ask me (any question).”

A man got up and said, “O Allah’s Apostle! Who is my father?”

The Prophet (saws) replied, “Your father is Hudhaifa (raa).”

Then another man got up and said, “O Allah’s Apostle! Who is my father?”

The Prophet said, “Your father is Salim, Maula Shaiba (raa).”

When ‘Umar (raau) saw the signs of anger on the face of Allah’s Apostle, he said, “We repent to Allah.”

The Best Speech And The Best Way, Allah’s Quran And The Way Of The Prophet

Narrated ‘Abdullah (raa: Radiallahu Anhu): “The best talk (speech) is Allah’s (Subhanahu wa-ta’ala) Book (Quran), and the best way is the way of Muhammad (saws: Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam), and the worst matters are the heresies (those new things which are introduced into the religion); and whatever you have been promised will surely come to pass, and you cannot escape (it).”

The Two One Must Follow

Narrated Abu Wail ((raa: Radiallahu Anhu): I sat with Shaiba in this Mosque (Al-Masjid-Al-Haram), and he said, “Umar (raa) once sat beside me here as you are now sitting, and said, “I feel like distributing all the gold and silver that are in it (i.e., the Ka’ba) among the Muslims”.

I said, “You cannot do that”.

‘Umar (raa) said, “Why?”

I said, “Your two (previous) companions (the Prophet (saws: Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam) and Abu Bakr (raa)) did not do it”.

‘Umar (raa) said, “They are the two persons whom one must follow.”

‘Uthman ibn ‘Affan, The Best Companion That He Knows

Narrated Marwan bin Al-Hakam (may Allah be pleased with him): ‘Uthman bin ‘Affan (raa) was afflicted with severe nose-bleeding in the year when such illness was prevelant and that prevented him from performing Hajj (pilgrimage), and (because of it) he made his will.

A man from Quraish came to him and said, “Appoint your successor.”

‘Uthman (raa) asked, “Did the people name him?” (i.e. the successor)

The man said, “Yes.”

Uthman (raa) asked, “Who is that?”

The man remained silent.

Another man came to ‘Uthman (raa) and I think it was Al-Harith (raa). He also said, “Appoint your successor.”

‘Uthman (raa) asked, “Did the people name him?”

The man replied “Yes.”

‘Uthman (raa) said, “Who is that?”

The man remained silent.

‘Uthman (raa) said, “Perhaps they have mentioned Az-Zubair (raa)?”

The man said, “Yes.”

‘Uthman (raa) said, “By Him in Whose Hands my life is, he is the best of them (raa) as I know, and the dearest of them (raa) to Allah’s Apostle (peace be upon him) .”

Alqama ibn Qays al-Nakha’i, Knowledge & Questions?

Narrated ‘Alqama (raa): I went to Sham and offered a two-Rak’at prayer and then said, “O Allah! Bless me with a good pious companion.”

So I went to some people and sat with them. An old man came and sat by my side. I asked, “Who is he?”

They replied, “(He is) Abu-Ad-Darda (raa).’

I said (to him), “I prayed to Allah to bless me with a pious companion and He sent you to me.”

He asked me, “From where are you?”

I replied, “From the people of Al-Kufa.”

He said, “Isn’t there amongst you Ibn Um ‘Abd (raa), the one who used to carry the shoes, the cushion(or pillow) and the water for ablution?”

“Is there amongst you the one whom Allah gave Refuge from Satan through the request of His Prophet (saws).

“Is there amongst you the one who keeps the secrets of the Prophet which nobody knows except him?”

Abu Darda (raa) further asked, “How does ‘Abdullah (bin Mas’ud) (raa) recite the Sura starting with,”

Al Lail – Surah 92. The Night

[92.1] “By the Night as it conceals (the light).”

Then I recited before him:

Ash-Shams – Surah 91. The Sun

[91.1-3] “By the Night as it envelops: And by the Day as it appears in brightness; And by male and female.”

On this Abu Ad-Darda’ (raa) said, “By Allah (swt), the Prophet (raa) made me recite the Sura in this way while I was listening to him (reciting it).”

Jawami-al-Kalim, The Treasures Left By The Prophet

Narrated Said bin Al-Musaiyab (raa: Radiallahu Anhu ): Abu Huraira (raa) said that Allah’s Apostle (Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam) said, “I have been sent with ‘Jawami-al-Kalim ‘ (the shortest expression with the widest meaning) and have been made victorious with awe (cast in my enemy’s hearts), and while I was sleeping, I saw that the keys of the treasures of the world were placed in my hand.”

Abu Huraira (raa) added: “Allah’s Apostle (saws) has gone, and you people are utilizing those treasures, or digging those treasures out.” or said a similar sentence.

Swearing To The Laws of Allah And the Example of The Prophet

Narrated Abdullah bin Dinar (raa): ‘Abdullah Bin ‘Umar (raa) wrote to ‘Abdul Malik bin Marwan, swearing allegiance to him: “I swear allegiance to you in that I will listen and obey what is in accordance with the Laws of Allah (swt) and the Tradition of His Apostle (saws) as much as I can.”

A Book (Qur’an) Of Guidance, Stick To It For The Right Path

Narrated Anas bin Malik (raa): That he heard ‘Umar (raa) speaking while standing on the pulpit of the Prophet (saws) in the morning (following the death of the Prophet), when the people had sworn allegiance to Abu Bakr (raa).

He said the Tashah-hud before Abu Bakr (raa), and said, “Amma Ba’du (then after) Allah (swt) has chosen for his Apostle (saws) what is with Him (Paradise) rather than what is with you (the world). This is that Book (Quran) with which Allah (swt) guided your Apostle (saws), so stick to it, for then you will be guided on the right path as Allah guided His Apostle with it.”
